Looking for a Swatch watch from late 1980's/early 1990's.......?

I had a Swatch watch when I was about 11 (it would have been around 1989 or so) and it seems to have got lost in the various house moves I have had since. I have tried (it seems like!) EVERY vintage stockists on the web and have still never seen anything like the one I had.
It had a black strap and a mirrored face, surrounded by chrome. On the mirrored face was a map of the world in different (pastel?) colours. Is anybody out there a Swatch enthusiast that could tell me even the name of this particular design so I would be halfway to finding one? Many thanks in advance xxx

Your best bet would be http://www.ebay.co.uk or another suggestion would be to go to their official website http://www.swatch.com and send them an email inquiry. They should have information on all their watches.

For the guys, an engagement present question...?

I have a very strong suspicion (read: I accidentally found the ring) that I am getting proposed to on my boyfriend and my 4th anniversary. I want to buy him something to surprise him even though we agreed not to buy each other anniversary gifts. I think that it's not fair that I get a beautiful heirloom type gift and he doesn't also get something meaningful. So I am buying him an antique pocket-watch as an engagement present. He is the type of guy who wears vintage suits and a black fedora when he dresses up (which is frequently) and I just thought he would appreciate a pocket watch. My question is, mostly to the guys, but girls, your input also appreciated: A. What do you think about the whole male-engagement present? and B. Guys, would you be excited about getting a gift such as the pocket watch I am getting for my man?

Thanks guys!

That's a great present!

To answer your question, the only reason why it mind seem kind of weird to give an engagement gift is because when you get married, you will need to give him a grooms gift, the pocket watch is just the kind of gift you would give him too!

Think about it some more. You will need another gift for the groom right before the wedding! - (not just the engagement gift)

i dont like the way this story ended...any suggestions?

Standing there in the mist of the night, Charlotte could feel the darkness surround her as the minute hand on her vintage gold watch inched ever so close to midnight. Without a doubt, she knew she was going to die. The nerve wrenching silence was unbearable. She could hear everything, the dew sliding off the leaves, the blinking of her eyes, even the sound of the wind silently brushing against her sweaty skin, but she could see nothing, the pitch black of the night was blinding, almost even had a morbid feeling. Pacing back and forth, she figured it was best she just run. Not even a second later, she caught herself running, running so fast that the darkness seemed darker, if that was even possible, she looked down at her feet, as they were just a mere blur to her sight. She was running too fast to know where she was going. She surely didn’t have a destination, but hoping she would make it somewhere safe before the strike of midnight. As she thought about ways to survive, she felt something, or someone, behind her, as if watching her every move so intently. She was terrified these might be her last moments of life, so carefully she took out her pocket knife and spun around quickly, ready to attack any person that tried to get in the way of her survival; no one was there, not even a single animal. Nervously, she quickened her pace, assuming that there might be hope up ahead of the forest. She wasn’t very aware of the signs that embellished the opening of the forest. All of which read: “forest of no return!” She just kept on walking. Too focused on the fact that maybe, just maybe, she would live; a smirk uncovered itself across her face. Suddenly she heard little footsteps tapping around simultaneously all over the dead forest. First she was scared, but once again, nothing was there. She was starting to come to the realization that she might be loosing her mind little by little. Once again she looked down at her watch, twenty minutes left. Charlotte’s heart beat began to quicken as the thought of the previous night came into play in her mind. Chills ran down her spine at the very thought of going through such animal like torture again. Out of no where a glowing light caught her attention. Without even thinking she jolted towards it, hoping this could be her way out. Never the less she was down to eleven minutes, speeding up, she felt as if the light was so close almost touchable. Suddenly she felt her feet drop off the surface of the earth and she knew she was falling. Thinking this was it, she didn’t expect when Out of no where something caught her, it was the same man she saw the night before, the one who stood before her and casually hunted her family. Grasping for air she could see in his eyes that he had been waiting for her. Slowly she closed her eyes ready to give up the fight, when it occurred to her that she still had the pocket knife, she swiftly took it out and pierced him in the heart with it, she fell to the ground with a loud thump and knew it was over, she still had her life.

im not reallly happy with the ending but im not sure how to change it

answers:

Well, since I don't really know what the story is about, I can't really give you any suggestions. To me, (correct me if I'm wrong) it sounds like a girl was trapped in the forest with some man who had tortured her. Then she got away from him and was escaping the woods... Before midnight? However, maybe I can help you out a bit?

"Too focused on the fact that maybe, just maybe, she would live; a smirk uncovered itself across her face." After this sentence, your writing felt like it was getting to be rushed. Most everything before that was excellent. Especially the first sentences. That is what kept me reading

Next, you used 'out of nowhere' and 'suddenly' too many times. Take it more slowly, describe what is going on in more detail... Try not to rush. Especially the part about Charlotte seeing a glowing light.

Also, I noticed several times where it seems like you used too many run-on sentences. I'm assuming this is just a rough draft, so no worries Re-read this paragraph over again and ask yourself: could this stand alone?

The last thing I want to say is polish up that last sentence. It's one big, run-on sentence. It's a great ending to the story, but the fact that it is separated by so many commas really takes away the beauty of it. Here is how I would word it:

As Charlotte slowly closed her eyes, ready to give up the fight, it occurred to her that she still had the pocket knife. She swiftly brought up the blade and pierced him in the heart (this could use more detail). Her tired body fell to the ground with a loud thump, and she knew it was over. She still had her life.

If you're not satisfyed with the ending, maybe you could make Charlotte struggle to get out of the man's grip. She takes out the knife and slashes him. He staggers back and falls off the cliff.
XD

KEEP WRITING! This is really great, and I would love to read more of it. It sounds like a great adventure.

I hope I helped you out

When the object was in the person hands,we imprint energy's on to the object. For example
Can you remember a favour toy? You would LOVE to hold it,and may be FANTASIES a bout it. Etc..... These emotions are transfer by energy"s on to the object.
The energy's of those emotions have colors to them,so you have transfer an colourful energy field on to the object.
So this is ONE of the reasons why ghost come and revisit the object.

And where the actual clockwork is there's a little serial number thingy on the side - 12386437.

Sorry, I'm fifteen, I don't know much about how to find out this stuff. X'D I've tried searching the web but I can't make sense of a lot of the things.
I got it at an antiques fair so I know nothing, really, other than it's really pretty. (:

1903 looks to be correct for the movement.

If the case is in fact English made(which I suspect it is), and is silver or gold, you can accurately date it using the hallmarks.

The fact that it's in an A.L.D. Case also adds a fair bit of interest. Aaron Dennison was an English case maker who played a significant role in the founding of the original Boston Watch Company in the 1850s. The Boston Watch Company would go on to become the American Waltham Watch Company. In fact, some of the earliest production movements out of the factory were marked "Dennison, Howard, and Davis." Dennison had a parting of ways, and left and returned to England in the 1860s to start a case company.

Can someone tell me about my timepiece?

When I was just a boy, I was given an antique pocket watch that belonged to my mothers grandfather who died in 1901. I did what little research that was possible and judging from the serial number and brand name, it's an American Waltham made sometime in 1866. Serial number 232007 and it also says FAHY Conqueror No. 2. It was kept in excellent condition and shit shines bright I was hoping for any information you might have about the watch or it's value. Im looking to sell so if you might know of a good place to start it would be much appreciated. Stunning craftsmanship. See for yourself.

answers:

The serial number you gave must be off the case. That number corresponds to an 1857 model, which this clearly is not.

The serial number on the watch is 4128891. This is a 7 jewel model 1883 movement from about 1890. It appears to have some parts swapped-notably the mainspring barrel. The value of the movement is minimal.

The box hinge hunting case has some value in and of itself, although the substantial wear-through to the base metal will detract from this.

I think that this might be a $100-150 watch on a good day.

answers:

It is all a matter of scarcity. Swiss watches in general are not as mass produced as those from other manufacturers and have a reputation of very high quality. But the most important factor in collectible watches is its condition. A watch in very good or excellent condition sells for 10-20 times as much as the same time piece in only average condition.
